Frederick accompanied his father and moved into Dover Township, Tuscarawas County from Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1803... When Jesse Slingluff and Christian Deardorff, founders of the city of Dover, arrived George and Frederick were already settled on the west side of the Tuscarawas River... Later Frederick purchased a tract of land in Dover Township and remained a life long resident... He was enumerated in Dover Township 1820-1860...

Frederick married Rhoda Smiley 3 October 1815 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio... They had ten known children... Smiley, Sarah, John, Josiah, Jemima, Mary Jane, Anna Eliza, Elizabeth, Isaac, Frederick...

During the War of 1812 Frederick served under Captain David Kasebeer; Colonel Robert Bay's 3rd Regiment... He also served under a Captain Hamilton, also Robert Bay's Regiment... In the War of 1812 pension file of Frederick C Harbaugh there are also records belonging to this Frederick Harbaugh... It seems there was some confusion as to which company Frederick C Harbaugh served in and the legalities of his marriage to Margaret... Frederick C Harbaugh served under Captain Daniel Harbaugh during the War... Frederick C Harbaugh was the son of George Harbaugh Jr (11 Nov 1771) and nephew of this Frederick...

The records in Frederick C Harbaugh's pension file (Pages 13-15) indicate that this Frederick acquired and sold 40 acres "bounty land" that he received for his service in the War of 1812 under the Congressional Act of Sept. 28th, 1850... The warrant document number for this purchase was #22890, Accession #MW-0857-342... This land is in the state of Iowa, Township 82N, Range 10W... The Patent was issued to Frederick Harbaugh of Captain Daniel Harbaugh's Company which was incorrect... On Apr. 3rd, 1855 this Frederick made application for additional "bounty land" that was granted under the Congressional Act of Mar. 3rd, 1855... The document clearly states Frederick Harbaugh of Captain David Casebeer's Company... The warrant for the land granted under this application was document #38097, Accession #MW-0281-226 and again it was issued to Frederick Harbaugh of Captain Daniel Harbaugh's Company which was incorrect... This land was also in the state of Iowa, Township 94N, Range 23W...

Frederick's son Josiah Forest Harbaugh testified in his behalf for the application of the "bounty land" of Apr. 3rd, 1855... As the "Land Patents" were issued to Frederick Harbaugh of Captain Daniel Harbaugh's Company they became part of Frederick C Harbaugh's pension file, page 38 of the file... The widow Margaret perhaps received less of a pension because of the "bounty land" that was granted to "Uncle Fred"...

This Frederick is individual number 752 page 144 of the "Harbaugh History" published by Cora Bell Harbaugh Cooprider in 1947... She states he went west perhaps to Iowa before his death... Perhaps he did as he was granted "bounty land" in Iowa but there is no indication that he ever lived in Iowa...
