Tally H. C. "Shorty" Blankenship, 78, of Crossett died Monday, July 18, 2004, at the North Monroe, LA, Hospital. Born June 8, 1926, in Crossett, he was the son of the late Alfred Jackson and Elizabeth Coody Blankenship. He retired from the Crossett Fire Department as a captain after 29 years of service and was a member of Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Blankenship; two sons, David Blankenship and wife Brenda of Tacoma, WA, and Johnny Blankenship and wife Fran of Crossett; four daughters, Paulette Scott and husband Johnny of Carrolton, TX, Jeanie Parker and husband Jackie, Suzy Fox and husband Mickey and Linda Herron, all of Crossett; two brothers, W. R. Blankenship and J. E. Blankenship, both of Crossett; one sister, Palestine Mills of Crossett; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four step-children, six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Murleen Pendergrass Blankenship.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church with Revs. Gayle Riles, Ray Herron and Danny Johnson officiating. Burial is scheduled at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
