Thomas J. Ivan, age 52, of Lorain, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday August 8, 2006.
Tom was born in Lorain on December 29, 1953 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He was a 1972 graduate of Admiral King High School and went on to attend Lorain County Community College where he was enrolled in the drafting curriculum.
Mr. Ivan had been employed for eighteen years as a mechanical draftsman for the Lorain Products Corporation and its successor company Reliant Electric. He was previously employed in a similar capacity by the Tappan Heating and Air Conditioning Company of Elyria as well as the R.E. Warner Corporation of Lorain.
He was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain; his hobbies included gardening, meteorology, and league golf. He also enjoyed reading with a special interest in history.
Survivors include sisters Andrea Mackin of Westlake and Marlene Darby of Morganton, North Carolina. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Anastasia (nee Cyran) Ivan in 1996 and by his father Thomas C. Ivan in 2004.
Friends may call Friday, August 11, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning with closing prayers at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church – 418 West 15th Street – Lorain, OH 44052 or to the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland – P.O. Box 2680 – North Canton, OH 44720.
