US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from September 1923 to June 1936 as a representative from Washington state's 5th Congressional District. He received his formal education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating with a degree in law in 1898. He moved to the state of Washington in 1904 where he served as prosecuting attorney of Douglas County from 1907 to 1911 and as a superior court judge for Douglas and Grant Counties from 1917 to 1924. He resigned his House seat in 1936 after being confirmed to the United States Board of Tax Appeals as a federal judge. He served on the board until his retirement in November 1953. (bio by: Nils M.
