Marvel J. Christensen, 72, of Oakland, formerly of Uehling, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland.
She was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Craig. The family lived in Washington County throughout her grade school years, where she attended Hewett School. She attended Hooper High School for three years. When she was a senior, the family moved to their own farm east of Uehling, and she graduated from Uehling High School in 1949. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Dana College and her master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She was an elementary teacher for about 30 years in Burt, Dodge, Washington, Cuming and Keya Paha counties, as well as the Craig and Hooper public schools.
As a child, she attended church and Sunday school at the rural East Admah Church near their home in Washington County. She joined the First Congregational Church/United Church of Christ in Uehling on Nov. 26, 1944. She served as the church pianist for many years. She also taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir.
Survivors include: her aunt, Ethel Anderson of Fremont; a cousin, Dale L. (and wife, Mitzi) Anderson of Craig and their daughter, Stacie (Mrs. David) Schissel and sons, Drew and Alex, all of Uehling.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, U.C.C in Uehling with the Rev. Linda C. Newman officiating. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today at Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Argo Cemetery in rural Uehling.
A memorial has been established to the Argo Cemetery Association.
