Ethel Rae House Cagle was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord & Savior on Aug. 19, 2006 at the age of 94. One of 12 children born to William Sherman & Phoebe Belle House, Ethel was born May 10, 1912. As a young child, she played the guitar and sang, joining the House family tradition of wonderful gospel singers. She graduated from McAlester H.S. while working as a nurse aide at the hospital. A doctor at the hospital needed a chauffeur to drive him to his appointments, and recognizing the opportunity, she convinced him to give her the job. The only catch was she didn't know how to drive. Needless to say, she was a quick learner. After graduation, Ethel moved to the oil boom town of Seminole, where she met and married Walter Cagle. Together, they had 2 daughters, Carolyn & Mary Jo. Walter and Ethel owned grocery stores and eventually moved to OKC, where she worked as an Executive Secretary for the State of Okla. Ethel was multi-talented, excelling in oil painting, pencil drawings, and music. Her art work was displayed in various art exhibits and juried shows. After retirement, she went to OKC Community College and graduated with a degree in music. At the age of seventy-five, she performed a leading singing role in a theatre production at OKC Community College and gave her own recital. Ethel loved music of all kinds, especially singing and sang in gospel groups her entire life. She sang and performed for many years with the gospel group, 'The Sisters of Inspiration.' Among her many attributes were: faithful and dedicated wife, loving and caring mother and grandmother, bluebird and campfire leader, Bible School teacher, great vocalist, fantastic seamstress and even better gourmet cook. Her coconut pies and chocolate pies were renowned. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated Christian. She is preceded in death by her parents, William & Phoebe Belle House; eleven brothers & sisters; and her loving husband Walter. She is survived by daughter Carolyn Edmondson & husband Ed and daughter Mary Jo Linder; Grandchildren: Marta and Greg Coombes, Erick and Stephanie Edmondson, Todd and Carie Linder, Chris and LaNita Edmondson, & Suzanne and Byron Jobe; and 12 great grandchildren. Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother will be forever loved and missed. The family will receive friends for viewing & visitation from 6-8 pm Wed. evening at the funeral home. The final viewing will be Thurs. before services start. There will be no traditional viewing following the service. Flowers are wonderful; however, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwest Church of Christ Meals on Wheels Program, 3031 S.W. 104th, OKC, OK 73159. The Meals on Wheels program and the dedicated volunteers were essential for Ethel's extended independence at her home. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Bellevue Health & Rehabilitation Center for enriching her life by providing loving care during these last few years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thurs. Aug. 24, 2006 at the South Colonial Chapel. Committal will follow at 2:30 pm at the Shady Grove Cem., Indianola, OK.
