Author. He was born in London, England. He served in the First World War, winning the Military Cross. His life was powerfully dominated by his wartime experience, which he reflected in one of his most renowned works, "Undertones of War" (1928). Also he was a close friend of the poet Siegfried Sassoon. His works include "The Harbingers", "The Shepherd and Other Poems of Peace and War", "Masks of Time", "Retreat", "Near and Far", "The Face of England", "Choice or Chance", "After the Bombing", and "A Hong Kong House."
