Mary M. Mills, 87, died Wednesday (Nov. 4, 2015) at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville.

She was born Aug. 23, 1928, the eldest child of John and Pauline Holthaus Pollman. She grew up on the family farm in Oconee, Ill., with her parents and siblings. During high school and following graduation in 1946, she worked at the JC Penney store in Pana, Ill. Among her many duties, she enjoyed setting up displays and dressing windows.

While working in Pana, she met Fred Mills. Fred and Mary were married Oct. 26, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee. They subsequently moved to Assumption, Ill., and then to Flora, Ill. Due to Fred's work, they were later transferred to Henderson, Ky.; Albion, Mich.; Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and finally to Bradford, PA in January 1962.

For many years, Mrs. Mills worked for the Bradford School System as a baker, first at School Street Junior High School and later at Bradford Area High School. She was expert at all sorts of needlework including sewing, embroidery, crochet, knitting and quilting. Mary and Fred enjoyed traveling during their retirement.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael (partner Bob Holladay) Mills of Springfield, Ill., Diane Mills of Lock Haven, Steve (Sandy) Mills of Bradford and Lafayette, La., and Judy DeLong (partner Kevin Bell) of Morehead City, N.C.; six granddaughters; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and her infant daughter, Melinda Mills.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mascho Funeral Home Inc. with a vigil service immediately following with the Rev. Stephen Collins, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oconee, Ill.
