"Daughter of Isaiah and Jane H. Stoffer"
This statement is taken from a transcription of Quaker records. I believe this was transcribed incorrectly because the research I've done on Rachel shows her parents to be Josiah and Jane Trotter, one time residents of Guilford County, North Carolina. This is where Rachel married Samuel Rich 20 June 1801. They had 2 children together, Jane Rich, 1804 and Thomas Rich, Nov. 1810. They lived in Stokes County, near the Guilford County line until Rachel, a widow, moved to Indiana.
Rachel had a child, Benjamin Trotter, before her marriage to Samuel Rich. Her grandson, William B. Trotter, wrote a paragraph of his family history and said Benjamin Trotter's parents were James and Rachel Trotter. So far, no proof of James Trotter, especially a marriage to Rachel, has been found. But, hope springs eternal! William was correct that Rachel Trotter died in Putnam County, Indiana (although she was buried in Hendricks).
