Birth: Oct. 25, 1807
Washington County
Georgia, USA
Death: Oct. 2, 1896
Claiborne Parish
Louisiana, USA

Born in Washington Co., GA. An abundance of circumstantial evidence suggests that Ransom's father is John Spurlock, often referred to as "old John Spurlock of Barbour Co., Alabama". Old John Spurlock is cited as a son of Drury Owen Spurlock, born in 1757 in Virginia or north Carolina. "Old" John is cited as having sons Solomon, William, James, John and Samuel and may have at least two daughters; his wife is cited as Sarah (Sally, Sarie) Avant (Aven, Avent). "Old" John died in 1868 in Solomon's home in Barbour Co. Ransom participated in the Creek Indian Wars in 1836-37 as part of the 42 Regt, 11th Brigade, Alabama Militia, along with William Spurlock and a younger John Spurlock. Ransom married Ellender Vickers on 4-20-1836, in Irvinton (now Eufaula), Barbour Co., AL; migrated to Hinds Co., MS, with wife and two children in late 1838 - early 1939 and then into old Claiborne Parish, that part now Bienville Parish, near Driskill Mt. about 1847, being the first Spurlock in Claiborne or Bienville Parish. Ten children were born to Ransom and Ellender, including Marcus DeLafayette Spurlock who married Missouri Ann Owens; their son, Columbus D., married Selma Johnson in Shelby Co., Tx. and had a son, Floyd Earl Spurlock, the father of Foster LaVaughn Spurlock, this submitter. Ransom's wife and two daughters are buried at Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church's cemetery, Driskill Memorial Cemetery, Bienville Parish. Children of Ransom and Ellender are: Frances Emily, 1837; William Green, 1838; Sarah Jane, 1839; Marcus DeLafayette, 1842; George Marion, 1844; John Federick, 1845; Marianne, 1846; Elizabeth Rebecca, 1848; James Joshua, 1853; and Jasper Newton, 1856.
