Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his 1945 picture of the World War II flag-raising during the Battle of Iwo Jima, depicting one of the war's great moments of five Marines and a Navy corpsman struggling to raise a flag on top Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima.
