Born Gaspere Biondolillo in New York City, he was performing on Broadway when he was brought to Hollywood to play bit gangster parts in films such as "Follow the Leader" (1930) and "While Paris Sleeps" (1932). Eventually, he became well known to movie-goers as a mean, sexy gangster type in over 100 movies. Some of his best credits include "A Farewell to Arms" (1932), "Captains Courageous" (1937), "Road to Utopia" (1946), "Ride the Man Down" (1952) and "Robin and the 7 Hoods" (1964). He also appeared on many television series such as "Lights Out", "Perry Mason", "The Millionaire", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E."
