He was one of the leading influences on the development of science fiction in the United States in the 20th century. He founded DAW Books in 1971 (company designed to produce exclusively science fiction publications), and is remembered for works such as "Across Time," "The Martian Missile," "Destination Saturn," "Two Dozen Dragon Eggs" and "The Man From Ariel."
