He was a friend and contemporary of Damon Runyond and worked, like him, for the Hearst newspapers. Among his better-known books is a bio of John Barrymore, "Good Night, Sweet Prince," plus several memoirs of his reporting days. He was originally from Denver, hence the inscription on his grave.
