"Margaret Ratterree Oct. 27, 1922 - Aug. 13, 2006 KINGS MOUNTAIN — Margaret Elder Ratterree, 83, of 411 W. Mountain St., died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
Ms. Ratterree was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Kings Mountain to the late Bright D. and Mary Gamble Ratterree. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Col. James Ratterree, retired Air Force and sister-in-law, Gladys Ratterree.
A graduate of Kings Mountain High School, she received her B.A. and M.A. in primary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received her Doctorate in education from Western Carolina University. As a professional educator, she taught in numerous school districts in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. She concluded her career as Dean of Women at Western Carolina and Winthrop University. She was a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church in Kings Mountain, where she was a member of the Minnie Alexander Circle. She also held memberships in the N.E.A. and North Carolina Education Association and the American Guidance and Personnel Association. She had a keen interest in family genealogy and loved children and animals.
Ms. Ratterree's family would like to acknowledge and thank the D. Workman family of Kings Mountain for their friendship and support as well as the staff at Mission Health and Hospitals for their excellent care.
She is survived by her sister, Jean McRae Diaz and husband, Dr. Ernest Diaz, of New Market, Va.; nieces, Elaine Augustine of Lilburn, Ga., and Julia R. Damore and husband, Joseph, of Asheville; nephews, David Diaz of New Market and Lt. Col. Douglas Scott Ratterree, retired Air Force, and wife, Becky, of Okemos, Mich.; and cousin, Pride Ratterree of Columbia, S.C.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church. Funeral: Sunday at 2 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P.
