Elizabeth Jane Hardesty was the daughter of Daniel Hardesty and Elizabeth Jane Norfolk. She married her first cousin, Virgil Crompton Cox, Sr., the son of her aunt E. Elizabeth Hardesty Cox, in about 1869.

They had 6 known Cox children (all connected below):

Olivia Compton, 1870 (Stewart C Gibson)
Samuel Clifton, 30 Jan 1873
Daniel Webster, 2 Sep 1875
Elizabeth Jane, 28 May 1878 (John B Ireland)
Leila "Lena" Norfolk, 4 Jul 1882
Virgil Crompton, Jr., 20 Jun 1885

On the 1860 District 3, Calvert Co., Maryland census, I found farmer Daniel Hardesty, 49; Eliza Hardesty, 35; Jas Hardesty, 12; Benjn Hardesty, 11; ELIZA Hardesty, 9; S E Hardesty, 7; M E Hardesty, 4, and Martha Bulkhead, 30, all Maryland born. He lived near James P. King and Benjamin Harrison, etc.

On the 1870 Dist. 3, Calvert Co., Maryland, I found farmer VIRGIL C Cox, 22; ELIZA I Cox, 19; Olevia Cox, 1/12; Joseph E Cox, 8 and domestic Lavinia Johnson, 17, all Maryland born.

On the 1880 Dist. 3, Calvert Co., Maryland census, I found V.C. COX, 32; ELIZABETH J. Cox, 29; Olivia C. Cox, 10; Samuel C. Cox, 7; Daniel W. Cox, 4 and Elizebeth J. Cox, 2, all Maryland born.

Her gravestone says Eliza J. Cox.

I note the site creator Steve entered her death year 1897 which I believe it says from the blown up photo. The church record says she died in 1887 instead. Perhaps cleaning or a rubbing would help.
