Swaburg Pioneer Called by Death

Peter Jacob Andersen, pioneer resident of Uehling, passed away at
his home there on Wednesday evening of last week. Mr. Andersen
suffered a stroke several years ago which left him a semi-invalid
and since last fall had been confined to his bed most of the time.
He also suffered from dropsy.

The deceased was born in Denmark on November 17, 1855, and
emigrated to the United States in 1878, coming first to Fremont.
For a few years he worked as a farm hand in the Argo vicinity.
Following his marriage to Miss Karen Hansen at Admah on Mar. 2,
1883, they established a home in that vicinity. Mr. and Mrs.
Andersen observed their golden wedding anniversary last year. Nine
years ago they retired from the farm and have since resided in
Uehling.

Mr. Andersen was a gentleman of the finest character. He was a
devout Christian and active in the work of his church. With the
disbanding of the Danish Lutheran congregation at Admah, he and his
family united with the Elim Congregation at Swaburg, where he was a
faithful and regular attendant until his health failed.

Besides the wife, one son and four daughters remain to mourn the
passing of a devoted father. The children are Mrs. Louis Petersen
(Marie) of near Herman, Mrs. Dena McBroom of Swaburg, Alfred and
Mrs. Arthur Lueninghoener (Emma) of Admah and Mrs. Herman Jacobsen
(Anna) of Argo. Fourteen grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister also survive. One
child died in infancy(1) and one son, Walter, passed away in 1921,
following an illness contracted when serving in the World War.

The funeral was solemnized Saturday afternoon, with a prayer
service at the late home and the formal service at the Elim
Lutheran church, his pastor, Rev. Arnold Thoren, officiating. Miss
Helen Monson presided at the organ and was accompanist for the male
quartet in several song numbers. The beautiful floral tribute and
the large attendance bespoke the love and esteem in which the
departed venerable pioneer was held. Burial was made in the family
lot in the Danish cemetery at Admah. Relatives of the deceased
acted as pall bearers.

(1) This child is Hans Theodore Andersen, born on Oct. 22, 1883
and died in 1884. He is buried at St. Johannes Argo Cemetery in
Burt County, NE.
