Shirley Ann Gulledge Richardson, widow of Charles Robert Richardson, M.D. passed away on Monday, October 5 in Charleston, South Carolina after a long illness.

Shirley was the daughter of the late CMDR Albert Morris Gulledge (U.S. Navy, retired) and Lillian Louise Waters Gulledge. She had one brother, the late John Richard Gulledge, Sr. Shirley was born in Washington, D.C. but lived in multiple Naval Duty Stations as a child including Pearl Harbor, San Diego, Vallejo and Camp Lejeune and as a Naval wife including Charleston, Portsmouth and Beaufort. She lived in Statesboro, Georgia during World War II, and again during the late 1940's and early 1950's. She and Bob returned in 1967 to raise their family. In 2007, she moved to Charleston, South Carolina.

Shirley was a long time member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church. A graduate of Statesboro High School, she attended Georgia Teachers College as an undergraduate, earned her Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Georgia and completed her Master of Education as a Media Specialist from Georgia Southern University. Shirley was a Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity member and served as an alumni member of the Pan-Hellenic Council at Georgia Southern for a number of years. While serving in that capacitiy, she served on the committee that designed and built the current ZTA house on the Georgia Southern campus. As a business manager and wife of Dr. Richardson, Shirley helped establish Ogeechee Clinic, P.A. which served the region for more than thirty years in Women's Health Care and Obstetrics. She was also one of the founding members of the Hoe-and-Hope Garden Club. Until illness prevented her participation, Shirley was a member of First Methodist's Sadie Maude Moore Circle, the Ogeechee River Medical Society and sand with the Ogeechee Choral Society.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to: Statesboro First United Methodist Church, Local Hospices, East Georgia Regional Medical Center or the Georgia Southern Foundation.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Joiner-Anderson Chapel with Reverend Hugh L. Davis officiating. Mrs. Richardson's grandsons will serve as pallbearers and members of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Graveside services will be held at Eastside Cemetery.
