Clement Pille died at his home in this city at 8:15 a.m. January 1st, 1914, the cause of death being hemorrhage of the stomach. He had been ill for only four days prior to his death. The funeral took place at Arcadia, in St. John's church of which he had been an attendant in former years when he resided in that locality and burial was made in the cemetery of that parish.

Clement Pille was born in Germany, January 1st 1847, and was exactly 67 years of age at the time of his death. He was next to the youngest son in a large family of children, three of whom are living. One brother, Tony, lives at Arcadia, another Joseph Pille, lives at Haverhill, Iowa, where a sister, Mrs. Frank Neppl, resides at Carroll. A younger brother, Henry, died some time ago at Benedict, Kansas. Mr. Pille came with his parents to this country in early life. When he grew to manhood he first entered upon the work of a sailor, but after his marriage engaged in farming. He was three times married, the wife who survives him having been Mrs. Minnie Jurgens, of Worthington, Iowa, prior to marriage. Nine children were born to these unions of whom four are living. George Pille, the only surviving son, lives on a farm near Templeton. One daughter, Mrs. John Kishen, lives at Arcadia and another married daughter lives in Canada. The youngest daughter, Dena, lives at home.

Mr. Pille and family came to Carroll county thirty-seven years ago. For twenty-seven years they lived on a farm near Arcada, from which they moved to Carroll eight years ago. He and his family belong to SS. Peter and Paul's church in this city and he was faithful in his attendance on its services up to the time of his death. In his death the family loses a kind husband and father and the community a good citizen.
