BOONEVILLE - Maxine Cook Smith, 98, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Booneville Baptist Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born April 20, 1907, in Booneville to the late T.A. Cook Sr. and Willie Fugitt Cook. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and a 20-year Prentiss County elementary school teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Booneville Area Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Library and the Woman's Club. She was first lady of Booneville for many years.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Hankins and Bro. Phillip Box officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Smith Richard of Las Vegas, Nev.; a granddaughter, Suzanne Stokes of Dallas, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Kristin and Margaret Stokes of Dallas; two sisters-in-law, Grace Lowe of Florida and Jane Cook of Booneville; nieces and nephews, Willidora Kremer, Karen Stephens, Betty Forester, Bill Cook and Tom Cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayor Marion W. Smith; her parents; a sister, Eva Eskridge; and two brothers, W.T. Cook and T.A. Cook Jr.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
