MARTIN NELSON PASSES ON

Martin Nelson was born June 7, 1861 at Hallenslev, Denmark, and came to New Denmark, Canada, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Nelson, May 1, 1872.

They lived in Canada seven years, moving from there to Palestine, Texas, and two years later moved to Omaha, Nebr. From Omaha they moved to Fremont, where he married Andrea Jensen in 1888. To this union three children were born, John, Emma, and Johanna, Johanna dying in infancy.

He operated a barber shop at Fremont several years, and was instrumental in closing all barber shops on Sunday at that place.

His wife died April 24, 1893 at Fremont, and after his wife’s death, he moved to Blair where he operated a barber shop many years. In 1909 he moved his family, including his mother, to Loup City, Nebr., where he farmed 25 years. His mother died at the age of 84 years at the farm home in Loup City April 9, 1922.

His only son passed away January 19, 1935 at Loup City. One month later he moved to Blair and made his home with his daughter, Emma and her husband, Miller Munk. At this home he died April 5, 1936 at the age of 74 years and 10 months.
