Ethan H., American LaFrance Retiree, Age 80, of Ridgebury Township, Gillett, PA, went home to be with his Lord, peacefully at his home, on Wednesday, November 12, 2003. He was born August 24, 1923 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Elton and Viva (Ripley) Lewis. His loving wife of 58 years, Anna Lewis; and sister, Kathleen Lewis, predeceased Ethan.
He is survived by his beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Whitford of Bentley Creek, PA, Dolores and Tom Ewing of Jackson, NJ, Jacalyn and David Powell of Westminster, MD; much-loved grandchildren, Bret and Lyn Whitford, Jeffery (Brenna) Ewing, Joshua, Jason and Jessica Ewing, Davalyn Powell; great-grandson, Devan "Jake" Whitford; sister, Sarah Tomb; brother, David (Judy) Lewis; sister, Barbara (Warren) Gustin; uncle, Charles Lewis; along with several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Ethan was a veteran of the US Army, and proudly served his country from 1943-1946 in New Guinea, Philippines and the occupation of Japan. He retired from American LaFrance after several years of dedicated service.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY, on Monday, November 17, 2003, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours (8 p.m.). The Reverend Rick Wulf will celebrate the services honoring Mr. Lewis. Interment will take place Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Bentley Creek Cemetery, Bentley Creek, PA, where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Ethan full Military Honors. The family will provide their own flowers. Memorial Donations may be directed to the Bentley Creek Baptist Church, Berwick Turnpike, Bentley Creek, PA 16925, or to a charity of one's choice.
