Joy, nicknamed Jack, was born and raised in Wood county, farm land of Northwest Ohio. He was farming at the time he was conscripted to WWI in 1917, serving in Co. H. of the 37th Division. My great grandma took great pride in knitting many socks for Joy's Co. H. His military service took him to Europe and he left the service in 1919, though he was home on furlough in May of 1918. It was in Caldwell, Noble county Ohio that he met and married Pansy Archer on 1 May 1923. After losing their first little one, Jack Archer Cox on 28 May 1924, they raised their 3 sons in Caldwell until the family moved to Chicago in 1934 where they made their home for a number of years.
