Antonina Alvarado Baca was born in Artesia, California on May 20th 1928, the youngest of eight children.
Antonina was the daughter of Nicolas and Francisca Alvarado, both of whom immigrated from the state of Michoacan, Mexico.
Toni, as she was known by family and friends, was called back to God on Sunday August 6th, 2006, after a long battle with diabetes and heart disease.
As one of only two siblings with the opportunity to continue her education, she graduated from Excelsior Union High School in 1947 where she lettered in sports and was a member of the Spanish Club. In her 32 years of marriage she raised 4 children. In addition to babysitting, picking strawberries , and working at Goodyear Tires, she also worked for the County of Los Angeles at the USC Medical Center for over 20 years.
While retired, Toni loved to travel, shop, and bowl. She had very fond memories of her trips to Hawaii and Europe; the highlight of her travels was when she attended a private audience with the Pope.
She was preceded in death by brothers Nicolas, Alex and Ignacio, and sisters Pilar (Mary) and Sirina.
She is survived by her two sisters Louise (Baca) and Elosia (Regalado); her four children, daughters Toni (Berkenbush) and Deborah (Dietz), and sons Bill and Noel Baca Jr. Grandchildren include James, Donald, Sarah (Smith), and Michael Berkenbush, Stephen and Stephanie Baca, and Meoka Dietz; and great granddaughter Ryleigh Smith.
She was loved immensely and will be missed greatly.
