Ann Davis Burke, widow of John L. Burke, died Saturday, July 8, 2006 in Richmond at her Westminster-Canterbury residence. She was 93. Mrs. Burke is survived by her sister, Martha Glen Tyler of Richmond; and sons, John R. Burke of Arlington, and Richard S. Burke of Richmond; daughters, Patricia B. Duke and Pamela B. Strotmeyer of Richmond; niece, Marty Tyler Eagle of Richmond; nephew, Dr. Gilman R. Tyler Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; and her caregiver, companion and friend, Sandra Peebles of Richmond. Also surviving Mrs. Burke are 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burke retired in 1971 as Supervisor of Elementary Education for Richmond Public School System, and was a teacher in the at system for more than 20 years. Mrs. Burke was a graduate of Longwood College and held a Master's Degree in Education from Columbia University. A visitation for Mrs. Burke will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 10, at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond. A memorial service for Mrs. Burke will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Reveille United Methodist Church, following a private burial at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Burke's memory to the American Red Cross or the Employee Christmas Fund at Westminster-Canterbury of Richmond.
