Wesley Dean Wheaton was born in Petoskey, Michigan, to Alton and Ruth Annis Wheaton on April 1, 1940. Dean was a graduate of Petoskey High School, Michigan State University, and the University of Akron. He joined Goodyear Aircraft (later Goodyear Aerospace Corporation) in 1963. He retired as manager of MIS of the Wheel and Brake Division of the Loral Systems Group formerly GAC after twenty eight years of service in 1991.

He earned a private pilot license with an instrument rating and was a member of the Goodyear Flying Club and Aerospace Fliers. He was a 20-year member of the National Ski Patrol at Boston Mills-Brandywine. Dean enjoyed traveling and giving travel presentations to libraries and civic groups. He wrote two books on his family history and made presentations on genealogy research throughout northeast Ohio. He was an assistant librarian at the Akron Family History Center.

Dean Wheaton was preceded in death by his father Alton Wheaton, brother Dr. Frederick Warner Wheaton, and in-laws Dale and Martha Hothem Miller. He is survived by his wife, mother (Ruth) daughters; grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. He is also survived by his sisters-in-laws and brother-in-law; two nieces; two nephews and four great nieces and a great nephew; and cousins.

Cremation has taken place and private internment was at the Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey, MI. Memorials were directed to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York 10018 or to an organization of one's choice.
