Dean Martin, 73, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the V.A. Nebraska Health Care Unit in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Sheldon Parrett will
officiate. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be at 3 - 7 pm on Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4 - 6 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Dean Martin Memorial Fund.
Mr. Martin was born December 24, 1929 in S.W. Custer County, Nebraska, to Perry J. and Sarah (Hatch) Martin. “Dean” attended school and graduated from Broken Bow.
After graduation, Mr. Martin briefly farmed with his father and served as a substitute mail carrier in rural Broken Bow before being drafted. He served two years in the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable discharge. Mr. Martin attended Kearney State College and received a Masters Degree in Education.
He was united in marriage to Rosemarie Gerber at Winner South Dakota, February 6, 1960.
Mr. Martin taught schools in Ogallala, Odell and Broken Bow. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Grand Island where he worked at Monforts.
Mr. Martin and his wife enjoyed their travels to Europe, Hawaii and Tahiti.
Survivors include his wife; Rosie (Gerber), mother-in-law, Katharine Gerber of Grand Island, 2 brothers and sister-in-laws; Stanley and Virginia Martin of Broken Bow, and Perry K. and Arda Martin of Everett, WA; 3 sisters and
brother-in-law; Opal and Earl Govier of Edmonds, WA. Glenda Davidson of Hastings, NE. and Marilyn Coons of Terra Bella, CA.
He was preceded in death by his half sister Pauline Cooper and infant twin brothers.
