Early Life: Kenneth was born July 30, 1918, in Escalante, Utah, to Kenneth and Sarah Ella Griffin. He was raised and attended school in Escalante, where he met his sweetheart. During his high school years, he played on the Escalante High School basketball team.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Following high school graduation in 1938, he worked for the CCC camp, enlisted in the United States Army in 1941, and was recruited as a truck driver during World War II. He traveled through parts of the European and Asian Continents during this time. Upon returning home, he married his sweetheart, Marie Porter, in Las Vegas, Nevada; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They later relocated to Provo. She preceded him in death March 26, 2005. Throughout the years, he worked as a farmer, sheep herder, a laborer for Pacific States Steel and in his retirement for the US National Forest Service. He was a hard working, dedicated man with high integrity and always kept his faith and family first. He served in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including serving in a bishopric, was high priests group leader, a temple ordinance worker, faithful home teacher, and baptized many children, grandchildren including one great-great grandchild. He had a passion for horses and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, always cherishing his memories of being in Escalante. Kenneth Jared Griffin passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 4, 2015, in Provo, Utah. He was 97 years of age.
Family Message: "He set the example for our family of what a dedicated and faithful person should be. He will be missed by those he left behind but reunited with so many others he lost throughout his 97 years."
Survived By: His children: DeLoa Fillmore, Jerald (VaLynne) Thompson, Trudy (David) Dickerson and Marlene Richman (Eldon); nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His loving wife; his parents; his siblings: Alma and Donald; and two grandchildren: Stacy and Tracy.
