Gas Stove Explodes When Well Fills With Crude Oil.
George Kellogg JAY, 62, an architect and contractor of Coleman, Tex., died Friday from burns he received in an oil explosion Tuesday at Ranger, Tex., according to word received by his wife and family in Topeka. His wife and fourteen children have lived in Topeka since last March and Mr. Jay was closing his business affairs in Texas with the intention of joining them here next spring.
The explosion was caused by oil in a gas stove that had a direct connection with the well which became filled with oil. Mr. Jay's body will arrive in Topeka today and the funeral will be held from Mrs. Jay's home, 172 Arter avenue, at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Burial in Topeka cemetery. He is survived by his widow and fourteen children, Ira E. Jay and Miss Annie Jay, of Bruceville, Tex.; L.R. Jay of Ranger, Tex.; Mrs. J. MCNEELY, Miss Minnie Jay, Miss Odessa Jay, Miss Dorothy Jay, Miss Devota Jay, Guy Jay, Raymond Jay, Louis L. Jay, Lawrence Jay and Bernard Jay, all of Topeka and Mrs. Maude E. BOOTHE of Cleburne, Tex.
