Elizabeth married Leon Blackwell on August 05,1919 in Wolfe City, Hunt County, Texas. Leon and Elizabeth had 4 children, named Raymond Leon Blackwell, Majorie Nell Blackwell Sparks, JoAnn Blackwell (also McCaleb) Grady, and Betty Jean Blackwell (also Holliman) McClain.

Elizabeth and Leon were originally suppose to get married on June 1,1919, but had to delay their wedding due to Elizabeth's mother Bettie coming down ill. On the day they were suppose to get married Elizabeth's Mom died as Elizabeth was feeding her some icecream in bed. Instead Leon & Elizabeth got married at her parent's home on August 5, 1919.

Elizabeth was the valedictorian of her high school in Wolfe City and because of that she was to receive a college scholarship. With the scholarship, she planned on attending a college in Greenville as she wanted to study music, but her school lost it's accreditation due to the "scandal" of two PE teachers dating as apparently that wasn't allowed. So due to no fault of her own, the loss of the school's accreditation caused Elizabeth the loss of her scholarship. Her dream of going to college ended there.

Elizabeth was a fiesty (natural) redhead with Hazel eyes and creamy white skin. After her hair turned grey, Elizabeth dyed her hair back to it's orangey red color.

Elizabeth's father was Edward W. "Bud" Hames and her mother was Elizabeth "Bettie" E. (Edwards) Smith (Smith was her maiden name). Ed was a widower when he married Bettie and Bettie too had been previously married and had two children (One a half sister to Elizabeth was named Aurelia) from that marriage. Ed and Bettie had 7 children together: Earl, Pearl (husband: John Morrison), Elizabeth Mae, Ann (husband: Anson Clemons), and Harry (who was a baptist minister) and two that died as infants Hubert Hames May 1886-Dec.1886 and John E. Hames Dec. 10, 1890-Feb.5 1891 (both buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, TX).

It has been said that Elizabeth was of English & Irish heritage.
