Alma Lorena Denchfield

Funeral services for Alma Lorena Denchfield, 97, Eureka, were held last Thursday from Forsberg Funeral Home in Severy, with interment in Piedmont Cemetery. Mrs. Denchfield died May 12 at Greenwood County Hospital.

The daughter of Lott L. and Nancy Elizabeth Holmes, she was born August 9, 1882 in LaPlata, Mo., and came to Piedmont in a covered wagon when she was 15.

On February 11, 1903, in Eureka, she married Fred Hayes Denchfield. The couple moved to a farm along the Otter Creek, where Mrs. Denchfield lived until November 1975. Mr. Denchfield died in 1967.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Myrl) Shumake, Laverne, Okla.; one sister, Mary A. Holmes, Eureka; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Six children, Denzel, Frederick Ray, Claude (Pete), Lesslie, Elizabeth Pearl and Thomas, preceded her in death.

Lecil Sullivan and LaRon Bronson were the speakers for the services. Music was provided by Harriet Conssentine and Steve Barry.
