Born March 23, 1928; passed away August 10, 2000. Mr. Meza was born in San Diego and attended Grossmont High School. He played trumpet in the high school band and following graduation in 1946 he joined the Army Air Corps (1946-1949) as a member of the Army Air Corps' original "Men of Note" band in Washington, D.C. He married Helen Delgado in San Diego and continued his musical career by joining the Grady Howard dance band at the Paris Inn in San Diego in 1951. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Mr. Meza is survived b his loving wife Helen, daughters Marilee Sells, Elizabeth Hoolihan, Teri Mitchell and Geraldine Meza, all of San Diego; Melinda Meza of Santa Rosa; sons Thomas Meza III and Gerard Meza of San Diego; sisters Lupe Hadley of National City; Patsy Bryant and Gracie Dover of Glendora; brothers Gilbert Meza, Fred Meza and Roy Meza of El Cajon; Joe Meza of Santee; eight grandchildre and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 15, 4 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2725 55th St., San Diego.
