NEW ALBANY - Albin, Wilma D., long time resident of New Albany, IN, passed away on September 22, 2013 in Oxford, OH, where she had been living since 1996. She was 100 years old.

Wilma was a 1932 graduate of New Albany High School and the last living member of the Gamma Chi Sorority. The original purpose of the sorority was to raise funds to offset expenses related to the 1932 New Albany High School yearbook. The organization continued for many decades with philanthropic and support activities in the community. Wilma was a professional seamstress and tailor of women's clothing for over 75 years. She received her professional training at the Mary Cummings Dress Making Company in Louisville where she worked from 1937 to 1942. After the closing of the firm she conducted her own dressmaking and alteration service from her home. She was also the seamstress for the Fashion Shop in Green Tree Mall, a position that she held for twenty years. Before moving to Ohio, she was a longtime member of DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Altrusa Club, and a member of the Eastern Star.

In 1985 she was nominated as Senior Queen representing four counties in Southern Indiana for that year's Indiana State Fair. The nomination was a result of her work in creating a widow's support group that met monthly from 1977-96.

She is survived by her son, William Albin who is a Professor of Music at Miami University in Oxford, OH; his wife, Debra Albin; granddaughters, Kelly Wilson, Kristen Vajda, and Kim Gordon; and great-grandsons, Ian Wilson and James Vajda, Jr.

Services are scheduled at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral home, Oak Street location, on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11 a.m.

Donations in her name can be made to DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church.
