Obituary :
Duane Eldon Braesch was born on January 19, 1934 on the family farm west of Bennington, Nebraska to Henry and Jorgena (Hoier) Braesch. He grew up on the farm, attended District #26 country school and Waterloo schools before
graduating from Bennington High School in 1951. Duane was baptized on December 17, 1939 and confirmed on March 30, 1947 both at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. As a young boy, Duane spent much of his time working around the farm
but he enjoyed hunting squirrels, trapping and playing baseball.

Duane married Helen Sass on January 16, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, Nebraska, and they were blessed with five children: Vicky, Jackie, Julie, Dan and Lori. Duane and Helen lived in Bennington before moving to a farm north of Bennington and later to their current farm where they have been for the last 43 years.

Working most all his life, Duane has farmed, worked for Farmers Union, worked at a packing plant, B & S Transfer with his brother-in-law Rollie Sass, Braesch Trucking, Monke Brothers, Olsberg Excavating, Fager Excavating and then farming and raising cattle. He was a hard worker and remembered for driving fast. When the children were young, Duane had a racecar that he would run at Sunset Speedway and at Arlington. He enjoyed fishing, visits to the casino, family gatherings, motorcycles, boating, water skiing, dancing and playing cards. Duane was a generous, loving forgiving man with a bit of a stubborn streak. If he wasn'’t fishing, to relax, Duane could be found windrowing. Duane liked all types of food by had a real soft spot for cookies and a hot cup of coffee.
Duane is best remembered for his large hands, big heart and being “everyone’'s grandpa”.

Duane passed away on August 21, 2015 at the family farm north of Bennington at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry, Jorgena, and Leonard, brother Delbert, daughter Lori and
