MarDean Dalley Ririe
1922 - 2015

Early Life: MarDean was born December 3, 1922, to Abram Fitzgerald and Stella Altana Wilcox Dalley in Preston, Idaho. Her early years in Preston and Dayton, Idaho, were marred by the poverty of the Great Depression. She could never throw away a good canning jar even years after she had stopped canning. MarDean came from a family that valued education. She hoed beets and worked at a canning factory to save money for college.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: In the autumn of 1941, she arrived at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, just months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the U.S. entry into World War II cleared the college of nearly all the men. By a stroke of good luck, she had already gotten to know fellow student Max Henry Ririe. She fell in love with him, she said, because she could never predict what he'd say. She'd found a true original and she and Max were married in the Logan Utah Temple on January 28, 1944. Eleven days later, Max shipped out to serve in the United States Army while MarDean taught elementary school in Rexburg and Ucon, Idaho. A defining feature of her years building a family with Max, was moving house. MarDean was the glue that held her family together over many miles and many moves. She was a good sport and taught her children to enjoy the distinct flavor of every new place. At the beginning of her 60th year, she and Max built a business, AgParts Manufacturing, Inc. The success of the business made the final years of her life as bountiful as her early years had been lean. She and Max traveled the world. MarDean was a wife, mother, teacher and co-entrepreneur. She shared a wonderful, unpredictable life with Max. She was true to her inner voice. She loved classical music, books and travel. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, MarDean served in many church callings, including Relief Society President in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She will be remembered for her kindness, her easy smile and easy tears, her good humor, her strong backbone and her gruff intolerance of flimflam. She joked that the primary things she passed on were the genes for unruly cowlicks and wide Alley Oop-style feet. In reality, she left a legacy of kindness, loyalty, adaptability, learning and most importantly, love. MarDean Dalley Ririe, formerly of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, at her home in The Courtyard at Jamestown, Provo, Utah, due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was 92.
