This is a transcription of the death notice at the time of Jacob's death from the "Maryville Times" Wednesday, June 24, 1891:
Capt. Jacob Long, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at his home last Friday morning of paralysis of the brain and tongue. His age was 86 years, 4 months, 7 days. He has lived in Blount county nearly all his life and every body will be sorry to learn of his death. His bereaved family have the sympathy of a host of friends.
