He was the prosecuting attorney of Wyandotte County, Kansas, from 1907 to 1911, when elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Alexander C. Mitchell. Reelected to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses, he served from November 7, 1911, to March 3, 1917. In World War I, he served as Captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army. After the war, he resumed the practice of law in Kansas City, Kansas and was appointed judge of the Kansas Court of Industrial Relations in 1924. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
