Soon, he made his debut there in Gretry's Richard "Cœur de Lion" on 17 December 1911, and received tremendous ovations. Newspapers said that a star was born. Vezzani thrilled audiences until 1948 at which point he suffered a stroke during a rehearsal at the Toulon Opera that left him completely paralyzed. His repertoir included "Werther," "Lakmé," "Le Pardon de Ploërmel," "Carmen" and "Manon."
