He was an outfielder and third baseman for sixteen seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers and Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a member of the 1948 World Champion Indians. His best year occured in 1950 when he had a season high 157 hits and a .291 batting average. After retiring as a player, Kennedy managed the Chicago Cubs from 1963 to 1965 and the Oakland Athletics in 1968. Kennedy's son Terry was a longtime Major League catcher. In 1483 games he had 1176 hits and a .254 lifetime batting average. (bio by: C.S.)
