William Thomas Moore, a Dallas psychiatrist, died at his home surrounded by family on November 3, 2014. He was preceeded in death by parents Gertrude Nordlund Moore and Lloyd Edwin Moore. He is survived by his brother Robert Edwin Moore. Dr. Moore is also survived by Sarah Barnett Moore, whom he married in 1969 and children William Thomas Moore, Jr., Nanette Moore Gonzales, Cecile Moore Dutka, Guy Michael Moore, John Thomas Moore, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Bill Moore, Sr. was born on December 21, 1925, in Houston, Texas. He was graduated from St. Thomas High School in Houston. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945. Dr. Moore earned his B.A. and MA degrees in 1949 from the University of Texas, Austin, Texas. He was awarded his medical degree in 1953, from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Moore wrote several publications in pharmacology for which he received the Cass Award. Dr. Moore did his post graduate work between 1953-1957 at three hospitals, including Parkland Memorial. He then held a professorship in psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas from 1957-1963 while simultaneously serving as Medical Director for the Woodlawn Hospital 1960-1963. In 1964 Dr. Moore established a private General Psychiatric practice with specialties in individual, conjoint and family therapies. In addition he maintained an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas until 2000. Dr. Moore was a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA). He was Co-founder of Southwest Family Institute and became a Board Member of the Isthmus Institute, Reverchon Press and Saybrook Press. He belonged to the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians and the American Association of Marital and Family Therapists. Bill enjoyed sailing, but loved to ride his tractor and work at our East Texas family tree farm. The Life Celebration for Dr. Moore is Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 1:00 pm in Fellowship Hall at the Episcopal Church of the Good Sheperd, 11122 Midway Road at Northaven 75229.
