L.L. Thornton was born in AL and later moved to MS. He served in the Civil War for Company G in the 35th MS infantry for the CSA. He would fight in the Second Battle of Corinth, MS 3-4 Oct 1862. Battle of Vicksburg May-June 1863. In Atlanta, GA in August 1864 and was captured in Atlanta and then take to Camp Choice, OH as a POW until the end of the war. He then moved to TX.

He married Lucy May in Greene County, AL July 6, 1846 they had 10 children.
