In Memoriam

Died on the 23rd instant, at his home, 924 Dauphin street, my nephew, DR. PEYTON RANDOLPH TUNSTALL. He inherited a name distinguished in our family for a hundred years or more. He lived with me for several years in his youth and I recognize in him a kind and generous nature, which attached me to him. He possessed many amiable traits of character that endeared him to his kindred. He was a devoted husband and a most affectionate father. He started out in life under adverse conditions, handicapped with the merest rudiments of an education, yet he achieved a marked success in a business career, and left his bereaved family -- a wife and six children, three sons and three daughters -- provided with an ample competency, which is the end and aim of human effort. Sic juvat perire. He is now with the shades of his ancestors and may peace await him on the shores of Ackeron. Uncle Tom.

Yesterday morning at 1:30 o'clock Dr. Peyton R. Tunstall, a well-known local dentist, died at the family home, 924 Dauphin street. Dr. Tunstall had been a resident of Mobile for more than twenty-five years and was well known and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. While Dr. Tunstall had been ill for about two weeks, very few of his friends were aware of the fact, and the announcement of his death yesterday morning came as a severe shock to his numerous friends. The deceased leaves a widow and two children; also his father, P. R. Tunstall, Sr., of Montgomery Hill, Ala.; three brothers, Clay of Daphne, Edmund of Montgomery Hill, and T. T. Tunstall of Mobile. He also leaves two sisters at Montgomery Hill and an uncle, T. T. Tunstall of Mobile, besides other relatives.

The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the residence and was largely attended by the friends of the deceased, many representative business men being present. The services were conducted by Rev. D. A. Planck, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church, the minister paying a beautiful tribute to the life and character of Mr. Tunstall. Interment was made in Magnolia cemetery and the pallbearers were Messrs. John Gaillard, J. B. Robertson, R. F. Neville and three brothers, E. S., C. C. and T. T. Tunstall.
