Death:	Dec. 17, 1876 Newport Newport County Rhode Island, USA
Rhode Island Governor. He served as a mayor of Newport, Rhode Island and later was elected to the Rhode Island State Senate, eventually becoming President of that body. It was while serving in that capacity that both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor resigned to serve in the United States Senate. Thus Cozzens found himself taking the office of Governor in March 1863 and serving a short term that ended before the year was over.
