KENNETH BOYD "KEN" WICKEN, 70 of Springfield, died on July 21, 2006 from congestive heart and renal failure.He was born in Minnewaukan, Benson County, North Dakota on November 20, 1935 to Carl William and Leora (Knowlton) Wicken. In 1948, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he graduated from Lincoln High Schools.Ken was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion and VFW. After the service, he moved to California where he met and married Mildred Rose Shiflet.Ken worked as an RN since 1966 and for the last eight years at Cox Hospital in the Endoscopy Department.He was a member of Hillcrest Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and as a Parish Nurse. Ken was also a leader in the Boy Scouts of America.He is survived by his sons, Steven and Daryl Wicken; two daughters, Kristi Kimes and Karla Burbacher and her husband Shawn; seven grandchildren, Joshua Burgbacher, Cheyenne Wicken, Dillon Wicken, Alysan Burgbacher, Amberly Ramsey, Kasey Kimes and Kathleen Kimes; three brothers, five sisters and he was "Uncle Kenny" to over 130 nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gordon and Daryl; sister, Eloyce; his wife Millie and daughter-in-law, Penny Wicken.Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M., Sunday, July 23, 2006, in the chapel of Thieme-Shadel Funeral Service at Rivermonte, with interment following, with full military honors, in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M., Sunday until time of service.
