Elizabeth Gilliland McConnell was born in Washington, Virginia. Her parents were James Edger Gilliland (1745-1834) and Hannah Laird Gilliland (1750-1810).
She married William Moses McConnell on Jan. 31, 1805 in Washington, Virginia. Moses was born in Berkeley, James, Virginia. They later moved to Tennessee between 1818 and 1821. In Virginia, Elizabeth and Moses had 5 children; John Abram, Rosannah Fryatt, Jams G, Hannah J. and Mary Ann. After they moved to Tennessee, they had 3 more children; John Gilliland, Thomas B., and William Carroll.
