Ruth H. Knerr, 87, of Carlisle, formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Church of God Home, Carlisle. Born May 17, 1923 in Grantville, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Eva (Greenawaldt) Hursch.
Mrs. Knerr attended William Penn High School and was a homemaker who had previously worked for many years at the former Pomeroy's Department Store in Harrisburg.
She was a lifelong member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, formerly the Zion German Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was active in the church choir, W.E.L.C.A., and a member of church council.
She was a member of Bell Pioneers of America and the Lower Paxton Township Lioness Club, a former member of the Harrisburg Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer for the former Harrisburg State Hospital and Special Olympics.
Mrs. Knerr enjoyed traveling and square dancing and many wonderful times with family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen R. Hollen and her husband, Dr. Robert A. Hollen, of Carlisle and Nikki E. Knerr of Millsboro, Delaware; two sisters, Anna Weirich of Carlisle and Rose Bartell (Walter) of Palmyra; as well as several nieces, nephews and a large number of friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Knerr, on May 28, 1996; three sisters, Elizabeth Arndt, Isabella Yanko, and Martha Weller; and two brothers, Henry and Solomon Hursch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 420 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17109, with The Reverend Joel D. Petruschke officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
