Nancy Mildred "Mee Maw" Matthews

Nancy Mildred Matthews "Mee Maw," age 98, passed away July 18, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born March 4, 1908, to Alfred McVey Compton, a veteran of the Civil War, and his wife, Ethie Clifton Johnson Compton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur M. Matthews; her brothers, Rowland Compton and Clifton Compton; a granddaughter, Judith Matthews Grant; and a great granddaughter, Charity Leigh Matthews. She is survived by four sons, Alfred and his wife, Mary, of Garner, N.C., James and his wife, Veronica, of Somerville, Ernest and his wife, Annie Ruth, of Decatur and Ralph and his wife, Anne, of Decatur. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
