Marjorie F. Beck, 84, died Sunday at a local convalescent hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 12, 1899, in Kremlin, Okla., to Arthur and Carrie Cooper. At the age of three she moved with her family to Cascade Locks, Ore., and was reared and educated there and in the are of Colton, Ore. She married George W. Anderson in 1917 and he died in 1941. She came to Napa in 1941 and worked briefly at Parks Victory Hospital before going to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as matron of the ladies restrooms.
After the war, she returned to Parks Victory Hospital. After her marriage in 1951 to Walter Beck they moved to John Day, Ore., where her husband was employed by the forest service. After his retirement in the 1950s, the couple returned to Napa. Mr. Beck died in 1964. She had been employed as a nurse's aide at Queen of the Valley Hospital for several years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the Grange for over 50 years and had participated in numerous activities and trips through the Napa Senior Center. She was an early tenant of Laurel Manor and resided there for over 10 years.
Mrs. Beck is survived by three daughters, Willa M. "Billy" Meneguzzo and Velma Boone, both of Napa, and Helen Moser of West Linn, Ore.; two sons, Clifford W. Anderson of Redwood City and Elmer G. Anderson of Mobile, Ala.; three stepsons, Arlyn Beck of Baker, Ore., Maurice Beck of Hermiston, Ore., and Ralph Beck of Roseburg, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numberous stepgrandchildren, great-stepgranchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., with Byron Moats of the Napa Valley Christian Church officiating and Napa Grange No. 307 participating. Interment will be private in the family lot at Zion Cemetery in Canby, Ore.
