Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin was the son of Lord Sidney Godolphin and Margaret Blagge. He married Henrietta Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, daughter of Sir John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Jenyns, on 23 April 1698.
Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin was styled as Viscount Rialton between 1706 and 1712. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Godolphin in 1712.
