Gloria Jean Little Calvery*, worked in the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD), as an employee of the Southwestern Publishing Co. and was one of the extremely close witnesses to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. She and 3 of her office co-workers, Karan Hicks, Karen Westbrook, and Carol Reed, were standing on the sidewalk on the north side of Elm Street about 1/2 way between Houston St. and the Triple Underpass, to the east of the Stemmons Fwy sign. According to her own FBI Statement taken 3/19/64 - Commission Exhibit 1381 - she said she heard the first shot when the President's limo was directly in front of her:

An Important Correction:

It was long thought by JFK researchers (including myself) that immediately following the assassination Calvery ran to the TSBD, and was the petite "running woman" seen in the Darnell film following about 10-15 feet behind the sprinting DPD Motorcycle Officer, Marrion Baker, who was headed to the front steps. However, in the last 6 months to a year this story has been challenged and discredited by diligent researchers who have questioned this long-standing belief. Whoever running woman is, she is she is far too thin and short to be Gloria. A couple of other candidates for Ms. Calvery standing near the Stemmons sign have been put forward.

Gloria had red or reddish-blonde hair. The 2nd woman to the left of the Stemmons sign also has reddish hair and was put forward as a likely candidate, but using good facial closeups of this woman it was determined that she was, instead, one of Gloria's TSBD coworkers, Gloria Jean "Jeannie" Holt, who also has reddish hair. I now believe Ms. Calvery is the tall, wide-hipped young woman in the black & green plaid skirt, black top, and dark head scarf who is the 9th person left/east of the Stemmons sign. Given her scarf, we can't see her hair color but her height and body habitus is very similar to that in Calvery's wedding photo (which was taken only a few months prior), and her location fits her described location. (See Zapruder frame - left).

In his Warren Commission testimony, a TSBD co-worker, Joe Molina, who had been positioned on the landing of the steps during the motorcade, stated he encountered a "horrified" Gloria Calvery in the entryway ~20-30 seconds after the final shot and she explained that she had seen the fatal head shot:

Mr. BALL. Do you know a girl named Gloria Calvary[sic]?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes.
Mr. BALL. Did Gloria come up?
Ms.. MOLINA. Yes, she came. I was in the lobby standing there and she came in with this other girl.
Mr. BALL. What did she say?
Mr. MOLINA. She said "Oh, my God, Joe, he's been shot." They were both horrified. I said "Are you sure he was shot?" She said "Oh, Joe ,I'm sure. I saw his hair fly up and I'm sure he was shot" something to that extent.

Gloria was born, Oct. 7, 1942 in Bonham, Fannin Co., Texas to James Stewart Little and Ila Mae Dunlap. She was survived by her sons, Craig and Christopher, and a brother, Jimmie Lynn Little (Jim), of Plano, born in Dallas, 1948; and was predeceased by her father in 1997.

She was a 1960 graduate of Grand Prairie High School, Grand Prairie, Tx. and then attended Draughon's Business College, Dallas.

According to her wedding announcement in the "Grand Prairie News Texan" dated July 28,1963, she married Robert Lee Calvery** at her parent's home in Grand Prairie, on July 19, 1963. Her bridesmaid was Dana Herring, and TSBD Manager, Bill Shelley [William Hoyt Shelley],of Dallas was best man. They divorced in 1978.

*Her surname is frequently misspelled as "Calvary" in Warren Commission testimony and online.

**Her husband's name, Robert L. Calvery, was misspelled "Robert R. Calvery" in her FBI statement linked above.

NB: For years there have been several photos circulating online of what appears to be an older, dark-complected, black woman in Dealy Plaza near the Stemmons sign, taken immediately following the assassination which were falsely labeled as "Gloria Calvary" [sic], even though Gloria had clearly stated in her FBI statement that she was "of the Caucasian race, 21 years of age". Only in 2015 was this refuted and photos of the real Gloria Jean Little Calvery discovered by the diligent research efforts of members of The Education Forum, a JFK assassination forum. The dark complected woman has since been proven, by myself, to be Stella Mae Jacob, a TSBD typist in the billing dept. who is a Native American.
